Nikita
and I woke up super early for our adventure to Machu Picchu. Our host mom was
still asleep, but I made myself a cup of tea with the hot water in the thermos that
she left out for us. I ate the cheese empanada that I bought the night before
and made a jelly and bread sandwich to go with my pastry. We left and made it
to the bus pick up spot early. After the bus picked us up we had about an hour bus
ride to the train. I fell asleep for a second and we were there. The train was
pretty nice. During the ride they gave us coffee with plantain chips and some
chocolate. It was about a 3 hour train ride. I feel asleep only for a little
while and mostly sat with the girls and talked. Finally we made it to aguas
calientes, the town we were going to stay in. We went to the hotel and dropped
off our stuff. Lunch was a buffet at a nearby restaurant. It was really good; I
ate like 6 pieces of different types of cake. Delicious. Then we got on another
bus that would take 30 minutes to FINALLY get to Machu Picchu. When we got to
the top it was pretty weird being at a natural wonder of the world. I couldn’t
really wrap my head around it. Of course there was some climbing and being sick
it felt like a lot, but looking back it wasn’t too bad. We got to the top and
looked down. It was amazing. Magnificent, I can’t really describe it to you
since you weren’t there. You just have to go. I was looking right at history
and it was larger than life. I felt small and insignificant in comparison. The
guide took us to many important places, like the intihuatana stone that is used to tell what season it is and the door of the sun which is where the sun first comes into the valley. It was pretty interesting. After walking around and seeing all the important sites we went back to Aguas Calientes. I took a shower because I felt pretty gross from all the sunscreen and bug spray. WATER PRESSURE was nice to have again and warm water. I actually shaved my legs, surprising. haha Nikita, Sandhya, and I watched the Bachelor, a very depressing reality TV show until it was time to eat. We went out to eat at this French Peruvian place. It was really good, I got avocado papaya salad, vegetable pasta stuff, and apple pie. The apple pie was not as good as USA apple pie and the portion of ice cream was unsatisfying. Dinner was really fun though since we were all goofing off. Mark was being dumb and asked Sandhya if Muhammad did a breaking of the bread like Jesus when she was splitting the bread between us. She is not Muslim. Anyways after dinner Nikita, Sandhya, Neha, and I forgot that we told Mark we would go out for a drink with him and hung out in the room talking for like an hour. He waited downstairs that whole time until someone came and told us he was waiting. Whoops. I didn't drink since I was on antibiotics. It was still pretty fun. Nikita was being funny afterwards, telling me her bum was cold when she didn't have pants on. I told her to put them on and she told me I was so smart. Haha We went to bed early since we wanted to wake up and go to Machu Picchu in the morning. In the morning Nikita would not wake up and told me she would leave later. I left with the rest of the group back to Machu Picchu. It ended up being just Sandhya and me hanging out. We were supposed to met Neha but she didn't show up to the front of the place and so we yelled her name every once in a while when we walked around the place. It was pretty fun, we walked around and would bump into random people of the trip. We walked all around Machu Picchu and took a bunch of pictures as you can see. Then we met up with Nikita and ended up taking a nap on one of the many terraces of Machu Picchu, it was warm and relaxing. Afterwards we walked all around again and I touched one of the llamas that live there! I will get the pictures later. We were about to leave when we ran into Neha! When we got back to the hotel the girls sat down and did their thing, but I was bored so I left and walked around the town for a while until lunch. The lunch was really good again. I ate so much dessert. After lunch Alyssa and I walked around the town and just talked about life. It was really nice. Then we had to catch the train. The train was pretty nice. We had a little dinner type thing it was coffee with pasta salad and carrot cake that I thought tasted like orange cake. After we ate there was this creepy person with a mask on that looked like it could e a fox and crazy clothes. He danced around the whole train and then tried to get me to dance with him. It was really awkward. I got up but didn't know what he was doing, I twirled him but that was about it. Afterwards there was like a fashion show and they tried to sell us stuff, it was so weird. I talked with Michael and Mark until we got to our stop and got on a bus. After sleeping on the bus we were finally home and went straight to bed since we had a very long day.
